Man stabs his wife to death in Hooghly's Chuchura, arrested

A woman was brutally murdered by her husband in the Priyanagar South area of Chunchura late Saturday night. The accused husband has been arrested by the police, and the incident has caused significant tension in the local community. The deceased has been identified as a 58-year-old Jharna Ghosh.

According to reports, Jharna Ghosh had been married for the second time to Ujjwal Sheel. On Saturday night, Ujjwal Sheel's health suddenly deteriorated. Later that night, while Ujjwal was in the room, Jharna entered, and Ujjwal allegedly overpowered her and attacked her repeatedly with a sharp weapon.

Jharna Ghosh cried out as Ujjwal Sheel continued his attack. Despite her efforts to defend herself, Jharna was severely injured. She managed to contact her son from her previous marriage and inform him that Ujjwal had attacked her. Following this, she collapsed on the floor, covered in blood.

The commotion and Jharna's screams alerted family members and neighbors, who rushed to the scene at midnight. They immediately took her to the local hospital, but doctors pronounced her dead on arrival.

Upon receiving information about the incident, the police arrived at the location and arrested Ujjwal Sheel. Jharna Ghosh was a resident of the Priyanagar South area of Chunchura Kodaliya No. 1 Gram Panchayat. She and Ujjwal Sheel lived in a rented house, and Jharna was the primary provider for the family, working as a maid.

Residents expressed shock and disbelief at the events. "We do not know what the dispute was about late at night between the two. Something happened on Saturday night that no one could believe," one resident said. The owner of the rented house stated that Ujjwal had suddenly fallen ill on Saturday, and Jharna was not at home at the time. When Jharna returned from work, the landlord informed her of her husband's illness. As soon as Jharna entered the house to check on her husband, Ujjwal allegedly attacked her.
